Fastnacht – Lucerne, Switzerland

Lucerne Carnival is the Swiss version of Carnival know as Fastnacht. It begins every year on the Thursday before Ash Wednesday. There are large parades on Dirty Thursday and the following Monday, called Fat Monday, and also into the evening on Monday called Fat Tuesday which attract tens of thousands of people.

Güügemusig (samba and mariachi bands) roam the streets during the One of the highlights of the Carnival parade, is conducted by lantern light and the revelers stay out until the sun comes up.
