Antigua Carnival 2011

Antigua’s Carnival history dates back to the early 1830’s when slaves were emancipated. Happy celebrations of freedom filled the streets. In 1957 the first organised Carnival was held and ever since the 10 day festival of calypso, and pan music and street parades and revellery and of course the Carnival Queen pageants are always held around the last week in July to the first week in August.

Antigua Carnival 2011 will be held from July 23 to August 2 although there have been pre Carnival parties throughout the month of July.

Carnival like in much of the Caribbean will begin with J’ouvert the Carnival parade will be held in St. John’s, and in Carnival City at the Antigua Recreation Ground stops mid morning.
