Memorial Weekend NY Soca Parties

For the Caribbean community every national holiday be it in your country or out is a reason to throw a party!  In addition to the fact that both the Caribbean community in Atlanta, Georgia and Orlando, Florida host Caribbean themed Carnivals during the Memorial weekend, it is also the unofficial start of summer in New York.  While many people flock out of the city for the long weekend, we have tons of people coming in just to party!  Below are a list of recommended events, some are staples, others are new and just joining in the fun.

Verve – Hosted by NY Caribbean Vibes

A Friday night staple, held at the Brooklyn Children’s Museum, this party is cozy and fun. A NY Caribbean Vibes event, it’s a nice no fuss full of vibes way to start the three day weekend, with top DJs in an out of the ordinary setting.   Verve.stubavenue.com

Hosted by Scorch & Ice

What do you think of when you think of Scorch and Icebox ? If your answer isn’t fun then I’m at a loss for words!!! Between the infectious Scorch chant and the high energy vibes of the patrons and promoters alike I’ve never met a Scorch and Ice party I didn’t like. Originally billed as a cooler fete, a venue change to Pier 15 on South Street Seaport has been made and the  DJs won’t disappoint. Get a ticket. Thank me later. Islandetickets.com

Hosted by Vale Vibe

A new all-inclusive event by the well known Vale Vibe promotion team, aboard the very fancy HornBlower Infinity on Pier 40 in NYC, expect this event to be true to their unwavering standard of class, ambience and vibes. Tickets are sold out and it promises to be a cruise to remember with music from Back to Basics, Dr. Wax, Mad Russian and hosted by Tony Cross with a top shelf open bar and catering from NY Caribbean staples like Allans bakery.

Hosted by Sugarcane

Advertised as “A Stylishly Sexy Summer Soirée” Sugarcane is definitely known for putting together a stylish event. Blossom is no different. An outdoor Brooklyn venue (rare commodity these days) pretty people, good music and although I don’t eat much at parties, if you are so inclined, I mean it’s SUGARCANE!

Rise – Hosted by GameFace

GameFace Rise is another staple event. “Mature, Upscale familiar individuals who have been constantly supporting through the years” is how Sean Cordner describes his patrons, this is precisely what makes this event special. It’s like a family/friend reunion done in style with great music, atmosphere and vibes.

Shine – Hosted by B2B Entertainment

We all have our biases and color me biased to the nostalgia that is attached to Shine.  Hosted by B2B Entertainment, this event is over a decade old and has seen its highs and lows.  The highs though, are memorable enough to make you keep going back for more.  This year, Shine is being held outdoors on the rooftop of the Brooklyn Children’s Museum, is limited ticket sales with an “Xclusiv” Vibe, a nod to the early years when the event was not to be missed rain or ‘Shine’. An added bonus is Bunji Garlin’s 1st NY performance of 2017 and this event is nothing but consistent in its stellar DJ cast. A few tickets may be left. Don’t say you weren’t advised!
